At the end of World War II, William Russell Kelly (“Russ”) opened a business service bureau in Detroit for local companies to bring in their typing, duplicating, inventory calculations, and other business projects to be completed by the bureau staff. Nearly 70 years later, the single service bureau office has evolved into a Fortune 500 global company that has been headquartered in Troy since October 1978. Today, as a provider of workforce solutions to clients across the world, Kelly Services directly provides talent in areas ranging from clerical and light industrial to highly specialized scientific and engineering, and provides comprehensive outsourcing and talent consulting solutions to many of the world’s best-known companies.
St. Patrick’s Day has always been a special day for the company, as executives traditionally open (or close) the Nasdaq market in New York City. This year, Terence E. Adderley, executive chairman and chairman of the board, rang the opening bell.
Previously, Kelly Services recognized St. Patrick’s Day in the U.S. with the celebration of KellyWeek, an annual community support program that took place the week of St. Patrick’s Day. As the company has expanded, so has Kelly Services’ commitment to doing what’s right for its customers, candidates, and communities around the world. The impact on people’s lives is tremendous.
