Sunday August 2 will mark the 8th annual Traffic Jam Classic Car Show in Troy. The event, held in the plaza and landscaped parking area of the Columbia Center on the southwest corner of Big Beaver at Livernois, is free to the general public from 10 am – 3 pm. The Traffic Jam is a cooperative effort by the Troy Historical Society, Kirco, and the City of Troy. All sponsorships and vehicle entry fees from the show benefit the Troy Historical Society.
The popular Troy Traffic Jam showcases a wide range of automotive technologies, styles, and innovations. Show goers will have the opportunity to check out classic automobiles, hot rods, muscle cars, sports cars, unique race cars, and vehicles from the GM Vintage collection. Specialty vehicles from private collections include a 1932 Stutz DV-32 Super Bearcat, 2015 Chrysler Challenger Hellcat, and the Miss America 10 Speed Boat, winner of the world’s greatest boat race. A variety of 1950s vehicles will also showcase Troy’s 60th Anniversary of its incorporation as a city. In all, over 200 vehicles will be exhibited and judged.
Those attending the show can also relax under shade trees and umbrella tables in the Columbia Center Plaza while enjoying great oldies music provided by DJ Bob Steel. Gateway Deli, Insalata Troy, and Zoyo Yogurt are also on hand to provide fresh lunches and snacks.
All are encouraged to come to the best Traffic Jam in the region! Car guys and gals can still enter their favorite car(s) in the event. Simply download the application form or call Community Affairs at 248-524-1147. The registration fee for cars entered on August 2 is $20.

To commemorate the City of Troy’s 60th Anniversary in 2015, we will publish a different story each day that highlights a person, discovery, or event that occurred locally, regionally, nationally, or even globally between 1955 and 2015 and that helped shape our lives and our community. We will try to post stories on important anniversary dates, but we also realize that dates are less critical than content and context. We will include the facts related to controversial stories, allowing our readers to form their own opinions. We invite you to read and comment on the stories. Your suggestions for topics are also welcome and can be posted on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/TroyHistoricVillage. You can also email stories or ideas to the 365 Story Editor at ed@thvmail.org.
